Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble’s commitment the community is our highest priority. We want to expand our Teen Project program so we can fulfill our mission of engaging and inspiring the community of Chicago.

Some of our partnerships include:

Simpson Academy for Young Women

CDE worked with the Simpson Academy for Young Women, a school for pregnant and teen mothers, on the play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/ When The Rainbow is Enuf and performed it at the EP Theatre in Pilsen. For these teen moms, it was an experience where they gained self-confidence, self-respect and learned the skills to be a great performer. In 2010 we will be back at Simpson assisting the young women in writing and creating their own performance.

Christopher House

CDE provides middle school teens of Christopher House an opportunity to explore and experience the visual and performing arts while working to improve their literacy, social, and communication skills. Students are developing a performance, “Our Chicago Voice,” based on their experiences living in Chicago.

West Town Leadership United

CDE and WTLU is currently working to implement new TAP programs at various schools in the West Town neighborhood. We have worked with teens at Chopin to create and perform the poem/performance “Speak” for fellow classmates, family and community members. Our talented teaching artists worked with students to build confidence, strengthen literacy skills and encourage creative thinking.
